What Changes After Regional RC Drilling?

Exploration updates are often read as metres drilled, prospects tested and assays pending. For a field team, the better question is: what should change in the next target-ranking decision because this work has been completed?

Re-rank the target, not only the anomaly

Regional drilling may change whether the interpreted host is present, whether a projected structure is correctly positioned, whether weathering distorts a surface response and whether the target geometry remains testable.

Useful scoring fields include geological fit, structural fit, geochemical support, geophysical or remote-sensing support, data quality, contradictory evidence, field access and the next observation most likely to change the decision.

Connect every field method to uncertainty

Mapping

Test whether interpreted contacts, structures or alteration footprints are present and whether their orientation supports the target model.

Sampling

Test whether geochemical support is repeatable, spatially coherent and tied to the mapped geological setting rather than an isolated result.

Auger drilling

Improve coverage under regolith while preserving uncertainty around transport, weathering and sample support.

Write downgrade rules before new results

Downgrade a target when the expected host or structure is not confirmed, datasets become misaligned after better registration, a surface response has a more plausible non-mineral cause, repeat sampling fails or the remaining uncertainty is disproportionately costly to resolve.

Keep the output useful

A practical package contains ranked suspected-target polygons, GIS-ready evidence layers, source and recency records, confidence and uncertainty notes, explicit upgrade and downgrade conditions and a field-verification checklist.
